Today, some odds and ends. In between reading some Clay Shirky, here are some links I’ve found.John Martyn  The official John Martyn website reports today that BBC4 will be repeating the one-hour Johnny Too Bad documentary, and by a half-hour solo acoustic performance from 1978. Dates and times for the documentary are Friday 20th March at 10:00 pm, Saturday 21st March at 1:20 am and Sunday 22nd March at 10:00 pm. The concert is being shown immediately after the Firday 20th documentary and immediately preceding the Saturday showing. It is not being broadcast on the Sunday.Videos  This video is doing the rounds of certain Christian blogs at present. N T Wright would be apoplectic in its denial of the physical and material in the afterlife. OK, don’t take it too seriously, but this is part of the problem with much populist Christian understanding of life after death:(Via Parables of a Prodigal World and On Coffee.)This one is popular, too. American comedian Louis CK interviewed by Conan O’Brien on the theme, ‘Everything’s amazing, nobody’s happy’. I watched this just after reading some more of Clay Shirky’s book ‘Here Comes Everybody’ where he says that social change happens not once new technology is invented, but once is becomes ubiquitous. Louis talks more about how easily jaded we become with new tech:(Via Collide Magazine and others.)At least these are YouTube videos you can watch in the UK. From next Monday, UK viewers won’t be able to see premium music videos on the site.Gospel  David Wayne has a very pointed ‘failed Gospel tract‘.Writing  American pastor Mark Batterson on his rules for writing. And that will have to do for today. I’m sure you’ll find something of interest somewhere in the abvoe. Posted in Books, Culture, Music, Religion Tagged: breakfast song, Clay Shirky, Collide magazine, Conan O'Brien, David Wayne, Gospel, John Martyn, Jollyblogger, Louis CK, Mark Batterson, N T Wright, New...

Entitlement – America’s Epidemic Exposed by Recession Good day readers and thanks for your continued loyalty. You may have read a scribbling of mine in the past with a similar title, I assure you this is not the same story. Recently I was slapped in the face by none other than Gary Keller, not literally of course, yet equally painful. It is one of those slaps that are so powerful, they change your life. Why was I slapped? Because I am a spoiled brat and I won’t call you one, but I do intend to help you self discover that may be the case. Here we are bathing in some of the WORST economic times since the great depression. How are these times affecting you? Personally I write this from my heated bedroom with flannel sheets overlooking my beach house and the Madison skyline after just moments ago walking out of my steam shower… and yes I am writing this on my laptop. My beautiful and very pregnant girlfriend just brought me gourmet pizza for lunch and our baby is almost text book perfect already equipped with every material item she will need for the next 2 years. When I was 25 I was named CEO of a multi-million dollar company with little more than a years worth of experience and no management background whatsoever. My career today is as secure as my commitment to results and my ability to adapt to changing market conditions. I control my destiny. Those that know me know that I wouldn’t share this unless I needed to make a point. What is my point today… this is the era of entitlement. I still felt at times the world owed me more and today that sickens me. A recent poll which I cite from memory alone and picked up from walking by a cable network newscast in Orlando International asked Americans, “Are you fearful for the economic future of the United States?” Upwards of 70% of respondents said “Yes”. In the same poll it was asked, “How would you rate your current situation?” Upwards of 70% said they were “doing fine”. Now I’m sure that for some of us this recession is very, ve
