That is not entirely correct. Austin does not have districts, we are also considered at-large, but the candidates compete for places (ie: the top 7 most voted candidates do not necessarily win). Any person can vote for any of the candidates, regardless of the place they are running for.
I found the video to be engaging and helpful. Detroit, unlike Austin does not have districts. These two candidates were obviously vying for a district seat. Whereas in Detroit we have 205 vying for 9 seats-all of which are at large. We are planning an innaugural Detroit City Council Debate July 28 2009. We can only invite 9 candidates due to the large numbers of those vying for election. You gave a one minute opening Statement, which we may adopt because it does allow for more time to field questions. We are planning to have two minute opening statements, but one minute may be better. If I were an Austin citizen the Gentleman would have my vote. His explanation of the police action seemingly being unconstitutional based on the 5th Amendment and 4th Amendment were brilliant especially the explanation that you are incriminating yourself if you are forced to give incriminating evidence of your bodily fluids to police officers. The female's lack of clarity in aswering being an attorney was alarming. I could not vote for her!
We need to support Sam Osemene for Austin City Council Place 6. The council needs to change their direction. Our civil liberties are being eroded slowly but surely.
