Unlike other TED talks I have in my collection, I didn't post this one because I agreed with it. Jacek said in his talk it was a combination of things, including content, which would "save" the newspaper. However, I don't even agree with that. I think his nice design work will hopefully up the standard for the most poorly designed things we read, whether newspapers or blog template layouts, but I think the more flexible electronic media will soon reduce the newspaper to relative extinction. Nice work, good philosophies for work and life, with a good summary of potential solutions proposed to save newspapers, all in 6 minutes, but I'm afraid I'd have to disagree.
Jacek Utko is an extraordinary Polish newspaper designer whose redesigns for papers in Eastern Europe not only win awards, but increase circulation by up to 100%. Can good design save the newspaper? It just might.
Could good design save the newspaper -- at least for now? Jacek Utko thinks so -- and his lively, engaging designs for European papers prove that it works.
