original description

"Everyday People" is a 1968 song by the soul/rock/funk band Sly & the Family Stone. It was the first single by the band to go to number one on the U.S. Pop Singles chart, holding that position for five weeks from February 15, 1969 until March 15, 1969, and is remembered as a popular song of the 1960s. Like nearly all of Sly & the Family Stone's songs, Sylvester "Sly Stone" Stewart was credited as the sole songwriter. Through the years various musicians have remade 'Everyday People'. The most recent is a tribute album, 'Different Strokes by Different Folks' (released by Sony Records July 13, 2005) with Maroon 5 performing 'Everyday People' featuring samples from the original. Rolling Stone ranked the song #145 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
