Right now everyone is talking about twitter. It is being mentioned by talk shows, news anchors, columnists, and politicians. Further proof that is is making it’s way to a primary method of communication. As far as a full-on useage adoption however, it is basically somewhere between morse code and text messages. Meaning that you either get it … or you don’t. Then I saw this from Sprint in early April - it was such a smart move. This video marked the first time I “heard” about twitter on a commercial - the first time a company used it as part of their message.I actually paused the TV, and thought about just how awesome that was. Especially when they said “26% of people viewing this, have no idea what that means.” Then I thought … but, it’s still more of a twitter mention. This one was awesome mention as well from Hulu. “Your tweety pages.” :36 secBUT … where is the call to action ? Where is the two-way conversation ? I wanted more. I wanted to see a company say, out-loud on a television commercial “COME TALK TO US.”Then … along came SoBe. Granted, it is at the end of the video … but it is still very monumental to see a company have a social media call to action that is not facebook or myspace. Well … congratulations to SoBe to be the first one ever to do it. (disclaimer: someone else may have already done it, but I never saw it, so it doesn’t count … it’s all about exposure). So follow @SobeWorld … they obviously want to talk.Props to @SobeWorld for quickly uploading the video to YouTube on my request. That IS company communication.

Sprint's "now" promotion seems to be in full swing. In line with their dashboard to the universe, they're currently airing this commercial (below) that shows various statistics on things that are happening right now. Apparently, the most common text messaging topic is...diapers?

original description

Twitter continues to expand into the mainstream. It’s already being used by a number of celebrities, it’s all over news channels, and its founders have even started making the rounds on various television shows like The Colbert Report. Now, Sprint has released a commercial, running across the country, that features the service — and also pokes a little fun at it. “233,000 people just Twittered on Twitter,” Sprint says before continuing, “26 percent of you viewing this have no idea what that means.” You can probably expect that 26-percent number to shrink as the commercial continues to air and people Google Twitter. Speaking of “Googling,” with this commercial, the word “Twitter” just took another step towards becoming a full-fledged verb as well. Of course, “Twittered on Twitter” sounds a bit odd, and perhaps Sprint meant to say “tweeted on Twitter,” but let’s be honest: Both sound ridiculous. Also making an appearance in the commercial is the little blue bird that has become a sort of mascot for the service. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is particularly pleased with this, as he and a long-time collaborator of his (someone named Phil), apparently drew it originally. Find the commercial embedded below. The Twitter part starts about 34 seconds in. You can find me on Twitter here along with fellow VentureBeatniks Eric Eldon, Dean Takahashi, Anthony Ha, Camille Ricketts, Dan Kaplan and Matt Marshall. We have a VentureBeat account (for our posts) as well.
