West is known for shooting his gun over the head of a captured enemy combatant that got information from the prisoner about an ambush that was planned on West’s men. His actions undoubtedly saved the lives of many. Unfortunately the media had a field day with it and He soon faced an article 32 hearing. The charges were violating article 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniformed Military Code of Justice. West was in danger of receiving 11 years in prison, dishonorable discharge and no retirement benefits. West was forced to resign from the military until the public become aware of this injustice. on his behalf 95 members of congress drafted a letter to the Secretary of the Army for his honorable intentions. Was then processed through an article 32 hearing in November of 2003, he admitted wrongdoing, and was fined $5,000 over two months for misconduct and assault. He then submitted his resignation, and was allowed to retire with full benefits in the summer of 2004.West then Moved his family from Texas to Florida where he was a school teacher for one year before becoming a civilian advisor to the Afghan Army. That Mission ended in 2007. Then Allen West Ran for congress as a Republican for Florida’s 22nd district against Democrat incumbent Ron Klein. West lost the race by closer than expected number of votes. He plans to run for congress again for the 22nd district in 2010.We need Men like Allen West to replace the current “leadership” we have in this country. we need men and women who know of personal sacrifice and have lived the life of commitment and duty to country to continue that on our behalf here at home.
