DC Protesters face-off with police at Black Lives Matter Plaza ‘autonomous zone’

Authorities from the DC Metro Police are regaining control of the vicinity of Lafayette Square, displacing demonstrators who have attempted to establish a self-governed zone. A group of protestors assembled near Black Lives Matter Plaza early on Tuesday following an encounter with police related to an effort on Monday to dismantle the Andrew Jackson statue in front of the White House. The scene is a street corner during daylight where a number of law enforcement officers in riot gear are assembled. They appear to be forming a line, possibly to contain or direct a group of civilians. Onlookers and individuals with cameras, potentially journalists, are present and observing the situation. Buildings and trees can be seen in the background, suggesting an urban environment. The sky is clear and it seems to be a sunny day.
