Your tax dollars paid for this. Louis Caldera, the aide who took the blame for terrorizing lower Manhattan on April 27, resigned today. Flashback, AFTER THE JUMP...
Does President Obama have any clue what the rest of his administration is doing ? The unannounced recent flyover of New York City by two fighter jets and a 747 from the presidential fleet to buzz ground zero and the Statue Liberty for a photo op set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay. The flyover was ordered by the White House Office of Military Affairs so it would have souvenir photos of Air Force One with the Statue of Liberty in the background. To make matters worse, the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out. Even New York Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer disapproved stating: "To say that it should not be made public knowing that it might scare people it's just confounding, It's what gives Washington and government a bad name. It's sheer stupidity." The NYPD was so upset about the demand for secrecy that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly vowed never to follow such a directive again and he accused the feds of inciting fears of a 9/11 replay. "Did it show an insensitivity to the psychic wounds New York City has after 9/11? Absolutely. No questions about it. It was quite insensitive," Kelly said. President Obama ordered an internal review of Monday's low-flying photo op over the Statue of Liberty. "It was a mistake. It will never happen again," President Obama said. But if this was carried out by the White House Office of Military Affairs, didn't anyone brief the President on this? And if they didn't why not? Is Obama in control or are others running the show? Read more here: WCBS TV We have since learned that the White House planned a similar flyover in Washington DC on May 5th or 6th according to the Wall Street Journal. "The White House had planned a second ...
Ok. We must have a rookie in the white house. Who else would authorize a fly over of ground zero with a Boeing 747 being chased by an F-16. Don’t tell me Obama had no knowledge of this. Everyone else is always the scapegoat, but never Obama. This was reckless. The answer provided was that a file photo had to be updated. What??? A file photo? This is ridiculous. Think of the money spent, the CARBON FOOTPRINT, when this photo could have been photo shopped. This is the most ridiculous, absurd move of any administration. This just shows what a rookie Obama and his administration is. Why do they need a picture like this??? I guess it is for some future propaganda.From HotAir:From The Hill, the cost of this stunt in order to replace a file photo:It reads in part: “This report assumes that flight operating costs are $56,518 per hour for Air Force One and $14,552 per hour for Air Force Two. These figures are based on the perhour cost figures cited by GAO for fiscal year 2000, adjusted for inflation.”Essentially this photo cost at least $15,000. Wow what smart action and spending by Obama. Sadly all the Obamabots like drones will believe he didn’t know about this stunt. linkscolor = "000000"; highlightscolor = "888888"; backgroundcolor = "FFFFFF"; channel = "none";
Washington TimesNew Yorkers were terrified by Air Force 747 flying low over the city on Monday Morning. As memories of 9/11 flooded back, it was followed by anger when the reason for the low flying aircraft was revealed: a photo op with Air Force One flying by the Statue of Liberty. From the Washington Times:President Obama’s White House was forced to issue an apology Monday after a photo opportunity gone badly wrong — an Air Force 747 plane did a low flyover over Lower Manhattan, prompting terrified citizens to flee from their offices and high-profile accusations of government insensitivity in the post 9/11 era.White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera issued a brief statement saying he was too blame.“Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision,” he said. “While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, its clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused.”The panic started Monday morning when a backup 747 known as Air Force One when the president is aboard flew by Lower Manhattan with a U.S. fighter jet closely following, rattling windows and causing some limited evacuations.Over the course of a half-hour starting at 10 a.m, the plane flew low over the city and near the Statue of Liberty.There are some questions here:1) Why was White House responsibility in this mess revealed so late in the day? 2) How much will this photo op terrifying tax payers cost the tax payers?h/t to Hot Air for the video.
