Arsène Wenger has suggested that Arsenal will make Manchester United regret not turning their superiority into more goals after last night’s 1-0 victory for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. He has a point, the Salford boys could have and probably should have done better. The hosts started at full pelt, the diabolically-haired Manuel Almunia making a stunning point-blank save to deny Carlos Tevez, lthough moments later United’s pressure paid off with John O’Shea arriving in the box to smash home the opener 17 minutes in. Almunia came to the Gunners’ rescue midway through the half when the Spanish keeper saved brilliantly to deny a Ronaldo header. Arsenal barely tested Van der Sar in the first half, only Spit Fabregas trying his luck from 20-yards out without success. The second half wasn’t that hot, Adebayor flashing a shot over the bar for Arsenal midway through, Ronaldo coming close to adding a second only to see his wonderful dipping strike crash against the bar. The tie is nicely poised for the second leg.
