One of Obama’s first official acts as President was his announcement of the closure of Gitmo within a year. A curious thing to do as President in your first week, especially when the financial crisis was looming and his proclamation of doom permeated political speak. What is also curious is that he announced the closure without a plan to execute that closure. Well, it is more then just curious, it’s a little disconcerting that President Obama is driven by his far left ideology, or driven by those on the far left.He found out what George Bush already knew about the predicament that is Gitmo: what do you do with enemy combatants captured on the battlefield and are too dangerous to free in civil society and when no other country wants them? The President doesn’t seem to have a handle on all of this. With his apology tour, bowing to King Abdullah, doing the secret despot handshake with Chavez, changing the War on Terror to a Overseas Contingency Operation and defining vets, tea party folks and pro-life people as enemies of the State – he seems to have forgotten who the enemy really is. Republican Senators have gone from warmongering hawks, ready to bomb civilians in the blink of an eye, to cowering wusses afraid of housing a Bin Laden messenger? This video from http://www.youtube.com/user/RepublicanSenators is embarrassing. This is a priority? Second-guessing our prison system's security? Let's see these same Senator's justify putting a military base in a Communist country for he sole purpose of skirting International law. Cuba has an embargo because they are communist. Would we put prisoners in North Korea? You can build these guys up into the biggest, most fearsome network that ever lived, but at the end of the day, they can't break metal bars or cement walls. Stop being so afraid. Real problems are living next door to sex offenders, down the street from murderers and drug dealers. In our prison system we currently have the Beltway Sniper. The BTK serial killer, the Son of Sam, Ramzi Yousef (1993 WTC bombing), Manuel Noriega, Sirhan Sirhan (who killed Bobby Kennedy), the Unabomber, Eric Rudolph (Atlanta Olympics bombings) etc. We held Timothy McVeigh of the OK city bombings, James Earl Ray (who killed MLK), Ted Bundy, Henry Lee Lucas and many other bad people over the years.Name me one incident that has happened since any of them have been incarcerated that would make you believe they would be dangerous to house in the US. All you are doing is trying to make people afraid. You never talk about justice or legality. If they are guilty, sentence them.
Wow. Is this the best the Republican Senatorial Committee can do? Turn Kansas Senator Pat Roberts into some kind of weird hero? As PinkoSandy pointed out, all these states know how to keep people in prison and the military certainly knows how to keep people in prison. They also included Guantanamo detainee Omar Khadr on this list, a child soldier captured on the battle field and hardly a master-mind terrorist to plot a dastardly escape and terrorist bombing in Kansas City. You tell ‘em Pat.
They always try to scare you into voting for them. If you don't vote republican your mother will get raped, you family killed, and you will be blown up. grow up we are not scared of the boogieman anymore. Everyone should carry a card saying if I die in a "terrorist attack I do not want anybody's right's taken away, then again they think the world is only 5,000 years old. They should tell the Chinese there calendar is older than the earth
