Today's winner was Kanstantsin Siutsou -Team Columbia-. Danilo Di Luca fought hard to keep the pink jersey, especially when he was under attack by Levi Leipheimer and Michael Rogers while climbing the Sotto Collina, Colle del Gallo and Bergamo Alta. Di Luca had great support by his cycling team LPR and they pulled the attacks back. "Off of Gallo and to Bergamo Alta I knew what it would take to stay clear and win. I had 20 seconds for the descent to the city centre. I gave it all in the final kilometres into town," said Siutsou. “I hope he is here to win it. That’s the point from day one. He’s got a real good team around him. We had seven guys in the final group,” Chris Horner said. "Pedro Horrillo (Rabobank) crashed out of the race on the descent of the Culmine di San Petro and was flown to a nearby hospital. It was apparently a truly horrific crash — he shot completely off the road and into a deep, rocky ravine; rescuers needed 20 minutes to retrieve him.
