Simeon Jackson, who learned his soccer growing up in Mississauga, scored a dramatic late-match goal Saturday at London’s famed Wembley Stadium as Gillingham beat Shrewsbury 1-0.
With the win, Jackson's club earned a promotion back to League One, just two rungs below the Premier League.
Jackson, Gillingham’s top scorer, got free at the back post to head home a corner for his 21st goal of the season.
The match appeared to be heading for extra time before Jackson’s 90th-minute goal.
The game, played before more than 50,000 spectators, wrapped up the League Two championship for the Kent club.
Jackson, 22, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but grew up in Mississauga. At age 15, he moved to England to live with his grandmother. (From the Mississauga News
