Have you seen the Mortal Kombat movies? Mortal Kombat is a best-selling series of fighting games created by Ed Boon and John Tobias in 1992. Mortal Kombat began as a series of arcade games, which were picked up by Acclaim Entertainment for the home console versions. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is a 1997 film that was the sequel to Mortal Kombat. It was produced by Threshold Entertainment and directed by John R. Leonetti, who had served as the director of photography for the previous film. The storyline was largely an adaptation of Mortal Kombat 3. The novelization by Jerome Preisler was released through Tor Books. If you remember the last Mortal Kombat movie, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, you'll remember that it was not what would be called a good film. Mortal Kombat Annihilation did not do well at the box office, or with reviewers, and failed to achieve the success of the video game series. However, a lot of fans think a fast loan towards redemption is in order, and a new film in the works. The new film will be released in 2010, and the rumor is that original cast member Christopher Lambert will reprise his role from the first installment. If it does well, it may well mean credit repair from the negative impression of Mortal Kombat Annihilation.
