Having watched the events in Iran and Michael Jackson unfold over the past few weeks. This TED speech by Clay Shirky, about the power of Social Media, feels even more relevant. This is Siatomic Labs!
I took the requisite 20 minutes out of my life this morning to watch Clay Shirky's presentation at TED. It is very hard at times for me to explain to my colleagues how media has changed since the 1950's, Shirky nails it here explaining that the Internet is all about conversations.
Shirky, who talks on the Internets effects, argues that emerging technologies enabling loose collaboration is changing the way our society works.
He gives really great examples and explains how since the introduction of the Internet and the introduction of inexpensive technology has made everyone a consumer and a contributor.
He explains why organizations have to employ Web 2.0 technologies to convene their community and not to try to control it. To me he makes a strong case for using the Internet to convene a community and support it.
It's all about conversations..... It's amazing how may people still don't "get it".
