Materials and phys-chem processes are all around us. Society appreciates their uses. Materials Sci. studies the structure (physics) and chemistry of materials. It is based on the fundamental principle of physics and chemistry. It applies these principle to materials and their uses. I share these views and motivation voiced by Penn State Uni's staff. Indeed it is the reason I became a scientist, a metallurgist a materials and process scientist at a place who's motto is "A Place of Useful Learning".
