The U.S. can't possibly survive without manufacturing. 50 % of the cost of an item is for finance. The U.S. can never be competitive unless it issues "state credit". As long as the monetary powers control the credit and the banks, we'll stumble along just as dead as Japan. We'll never be competitive. I doubt that the monetarists or the banks will voluntarily relinquish control.
