The Concept of Race: The Confusion of Social and Biological RealityUCTV: UC Berkeley1 hr 15 min 0 sec - Feb 16, 2004Although race is a socially constructed reality, it does not correspond to the facts of biology. In this Hitchcock Lecture from UC Berkeley, distinguished evolutionary geneticist Richard Lewontin reviews a number of studies over many years of the genetic differentiation between individuals within local populations, of local populations within classic geographical races and between races shows that almost all human genetic variation is contained between individuals within any local population and that the consequences of repeated migrations, invasions, and mixture between groups has been to destroy any clear racial boundaries over the human population.
