Im going to talk today about lawsuits, or what they refer to in the legal world as defective medication lawsuits.
For a new medication to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration it only requires a short term clinical trial.
A drug may be approved because of a drug trial that lasted only six to eight weeks. This doesnt always allow enough time to recognize potential side effects. And sometimes, those undetected side effects can be deadly.
Take Vioxx for example, the FDA estimated that almost 28,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths between 1999 and 2003 were attributed to the drug Voixx. Needless to say, the manufacture stopped selling the medication after 1000s of lawsuits.
So, often times, with any new generation drug and despite FDA approval, unknown side effects or side effects due to long term use of the medication start showing up. Sometimes those side effects are mild, other times the side effects can result in personal injury or even death.
