I’m actually glad to see that someone is tackling the very controversial topic of ‘good hair’. The phrase ‘good hair’ has been used for countless years within the African-American community as a term to describe someone’s hair texture. In the urban community there is only ‘good’ or ‘bad’ hair – according to society. Take a [...]

I am extremely glad to know that Chris Rock decided to do this film.Good hair and Bad hair has been one of the topics at the forefront of black culture. although I have mixed feelings about weave and rockin your natural hair, I have to admit that I myself and my family struggle with this concept. every single woman in my family has long hair naturally, and recently I have been the one that has tampered with my hair (pretty much dying and over-processing highlights) and have struggled to grow it back-- it was the identity of the women in my family and now I feel different from them. Even down to my three year old niece we know that her hair will be long and manageable, in which we have established our own formula to maintain the hair that way. In a sense this is very troubling, yet, in the black community this is something that will never change. I have a cousin for instance, who swore we were mixed with Hawaiian just to back up why her hair was so long and when her friends asked me I said "She's lying through her teeth"... Why do we have to be mixed to have long hair? Has weave tarnished the possibility of black women rocking their own natural long hair, or is it that you have to be mixed? OR, is it that we have been doing so much damage to bring about the illusion that we strip what we might be able to naturally though only using products that promote our hair, not try to change it... I dunno
