Instead of old-fashioned paper records, doctors and patients can access personal health records, medical files, referrals, billing information and even e-mail one another through the system. The secure and efficient system could be a model for a national electronic medical record. The systems security features prevent third parties from accessing private patient information. At the same time, it helps to minimize faxes, phone calls and the like while providing patients the information they need to participate more fully in their healthcare experience.
