''Since the members of das Institut were overwhelmingly Jewish, they were reluctant to overtly express Marxian sentiments in the US since they feared for their lives . . .''.

Yea, normally people don't take too kindly to incoming groups who are ungratefull to their hosts by setting up institutes that seek to overthrow everything that country (USA) stands for. I see Jeff's reaction is exactly that of the brainwashed student stooges in the film. Interesting.

Whoa, way off, with regards to the lack of a definition of Critical Theory. By 1933 das Institut was forced to flee Germany and later Europe. Columbia University invited das Institut to set up shop in New York (whereby das Institut headed the New School in the Village). Since the members of das Institut were overwhelmingly Jewish, they were reluctant to overtly express Marxian sentiments in the US since they feared for their lives and thus possible deportation back to Europe needed to be avoided. Following the war, the major heads of the Frankfurt School--Horkheimer and Adorno--returned to Germany and focused on cultural studies while Marcuse, Neumann, and Kirchheimer remained in the US and focused on the original intent of das Institut: revolutionary studies. Thus there was a falling out between Horkheimer, Adorno, and Pollock and Marcuse, Neumann, and Kirchheimer. As mentioned, one group became enthralled with cultural studies while the other focused on revolution. Critical Theory was not properly defined until following the war because of fear not due to a secret plot and infiltration.

Q. Would it be politically incorrect for me to point out that Freud, Marx, The entire Frankfurt School and all the academic experts commenting on them in this film are Jews?
A. Shut up you nazi pig!
