I posted an article from Nature a couple months ago written by Ben Barres about the reasons for the dearth of women in science. Yesterday, Ben Barres spoke at UNC. While it was a predominantly a science talk, he did have a political aside and suggested we watch this video of the talk he gave at Harvard titled "Some Reflections on the Dearth of Women in Science". It's a bit of a long talk (about 1.5 hrs) but a powerful and interesting talk about why there aren't more women in science. Ben Barres has a particularly interesting perspective, as he is transgender and has therefore had experience as both a woman and a man in science.
