Expertise and curriculum are two different things. Expertise implies the ability to make sound judgments. Curriculum implies a sense of obligation. Expertise is founded upon self-mastery and manifests as a form of self-directed liberty. Curriculum is founded upon organizational control and manifests as a form of forced servitude. If we want students to pursue authentic, inspired, academic work, we must first set their teachers free.
