This is Michelangelo Signorile’s interview with Pastor Steven L. Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Temple, AZ. He has prayed for President Obama to die, calls for the execution of gays and said it would not be murder if a group of gays and lesbians were gunned down with a machine gun, or if [...]
The preacher is wrong. He's wrong on the Bible. Leviticus taught the execution of practicing homosexuals- yes. Obviously this is difficult to hear. But those laws were written for the nation of Israel for a limited time period and fulfilled in the perfect law- keeping of Jesus. Additionally, Jesus died to pay the penalty of death for a human race of law-breakers. The result being, we don't go out and try to set up a theocratic return to O.T. Jewish law. That's not what any of Jesus' apostles did in the Roman provinces, which were very polytheistic and sexually liberal. We are supposed to love people to our own hurt, converse patiently with opposing viewpoints, and try and persuade people to see that, all of us, including me, have broken God's perfect standard of justice and personally given him "the finger" with our attitudes, but Jesus has died in our place. The gay interviewer was more patient and kind than Anderson! I'm glad he didn't let Anderson be categorized as an "actual Christian", that was nice of him.
Steve Anderson is violating scripture and logic. The interviewer sees straight through to Anderson's blindspot/double speak. You can't condemn the murder of babies and not condemn the murder of the killers at the hand of an individual vigilante. The interviewer has this guy pinned up against his own bias. God has a better sense of justice than Anderson. The murder of an abortionist doctor is murder, is wrong, is condemnable, and will be judged. "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay says the LORD." When a person accepts the christian worldview, they consequently have to embrace this governing principle for personal vendettas and revenge on any level. Anderson has not.
Methodology without love is not the Gospel.It is sad when the “sinner” shows more love for others than the pastor.Note the logic from the pastor… where have you all heard this sort of logic before? I have... from the ODM's who claim to be above the higher Law of Love. This pastor’s method is not of love… not of God… and is spreading a gospel of hate and fear through judgmentalism and condemnation… And this is what I hear the ODM’s doing… maybe a milder form of it… but deep down it is all the same hate based gospel. Personally I am saddened... and want to apologize to the GLBT community for so called Christians like this and what they say. Hate is not a Christian virtue... Thanks to Existential Punk for pointing this out. a2a_linkname=document.title;a2a_linkurl=location.href;
