Okay, so I've tried to keep my baser interests in check on this blog, and all in all I think I've done a fair job of keeping the doggies, sports, and foodie posts to a minimum.
That said, I'm going to here use up one of my allotted sports posts to pay homage to the remarkable Roger Federer. Most concede that he's the finest tennis player in that once-provincial game's history, and he really is privilege to watch when he's at his best (which, I think, is the highest compliment one can pay to an athlete---that you feel lucky to merely have witnessed them doing what they do: Ali had that, Jordan, Woods, Navratilova, Jim Brown, and only a few others).
Well, this evening, as I set down to watch 60 Minutes, I found my oldest-standing of Sunday rituals was being pre-empted by Federer's Semifinal US Open match against Djokovic. So I watched, as I do every time I can see him play, and he pulled off what was simply the greatest tennis shot imaginable---not just because it was fancy-pants, but because it was clutch.
