There have been two more Craig's List-related crimes in the last few months and both impacted women. One was a double murder of a mother and fetus, and another a spate of rapes committed by an Oscar-winning songwriter and director. Add these to the numerous controversies stemming from Craigslist being used for nefarious and deadly purposes, and it is evident that the trust that Craigslist first engendered among its users and supporters is now completely gone. It seems the larger the list has become, the more opportunity there is for individuals with darker motives to undermine its reputation.

First, the latest happened in early June: the double murder of a young mother and her near-to-term fetus happened in Beaverton, Oregon. The suspect, heavy-set Korena Roberts, 27, told her boyfriend and everyone else in the neighborhood that she was pregnant with twins, although some doubted that she was. She soon began making contacts with other pregnant, soon-to-be mothers in the area via Craig's List (or Craigslist), looking for baby clothes, equipment like breast pumps, cribs and strollers, and general support. One of these women was Heather Snively, 21, who was eight months pregnant and eagerly expecting a boy with her boyfriend, Christopher Popp, and had chosen his name, John Steven. Roberts had only gotten to know Snively for a week.
