On Friday President Obama joined former President George H. W. Bush at an event at Texas A&M University to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bush's "thousand points of light" address calling for community service.
Before the event, the former President had asked for President Obama to be treated with civility, presumably referring to protesters expected outside the event.
But as is often the case with members of the Bush family, it was another "do as I say, not as I do" moment of hypocrisy. After the event, he criticized the tone of national discourse in the media, or as he referred to it: "the cables." He singled out two critics of his son who he felt were responsible for the anger against his son, and named Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow. He said "the way they treat my son and anyone who's opposed to their point of view is just horrible." He also called Olbermann and Maddow "sick puppies."
Of course! How dare anyone criticize anything the Bush family does? Thing like unnecessary wars, torture, and ignoring victims of disasters just to name three, are nothing to be criticized. How dare anyone point out his son's failures over the last eight years? In other words, it's perfectly ok to let these things happen, but not to point them out?
There's just too much condescension and hypocrisy here to elaborate on. But Maddow and Olbermann had an adequate response for George H. W. Bush, and it speaks for itself.
