This video showcases a few of my adaptive (disabled) skiing students from my years with Challenge Aspen, in Aspen, Colorado. I am now in Sun Peaks, British Columbia hoping to carry on my work and passion here for the next 20 years!...
“If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.”
Kim Hale is devoted to working with people with cognitive disabilities, spinal cord injuries, mobility impairments, amputees, the blind and visually impaired, and the deaf and hard of hearing.
As a CADS and PSIA Certified Ski Instructor (Alpine Adaptive Level II), Kim has been teaching disabled skiing & volunteering during the summer in Aspen, Colorado for the last few years with Challenge Aspen and the Aspen Ski Company. He has moved to Sun Peaks Resort, British Columbia to work with the Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks (ASSP) program.
While with Challenge Aspen, Kim logged over 150 days volunteering as an assistant or guide before earning his PSIA Alpine Adaptive Level I certification. After earning his Level II certification (teaching more than 140 disabilities), Kim accrued over 350 days teaching disabled skiing lessons.
Adaptive Sports and Recreation Therapy inspires hope as it encourages people with disabilities to believe in themselves. The result is improved health (physical & psychological), enhanced personal relationships, better performance at work and school, and an increased ability to face the challenges of their disability.
“My function is to emotionally, intellectually and physically enhance & challenge the spirit of those wanting to live life to its fullest", Kim says. "Working with people with disabilities humbles me; when I'm having a bad day, it doesn't take long for me to realize that whatever adversity I'm facing, it pales in comparison to the everyday challenges that a disability presents."
"My students have ranged in age from 5 to 81 years old and have come from many countries and cultures. And they all have left me with a suspicion that I have learned more from them than I could ever teach..."
This video showcases just a few of my students over the last few years teaching Adaptive Skiing. I hope you enjoy watching this and become inspired.
