Just when you think there is no undiscovered fly fishing left along comes a movie like this. This recently released trailer from Mad Phil Media shows permit fishing like US fly fishers have never seen _ especially when the fly fisher usually gets a couple of fish before lunch. Being an Aussie fisher, I'd heard tails of elusive Indo-Pacific permit, supposedly smaller and harder to catch than the fabled Ghost of the Keys. Bonefish too were found, big bones but again elusive. As more and more exploration of these fisheries by adventurous flyfishers, tantalising stories would appear. A few years back there was a real buzz when some guys started finding permit eating floating crab patterns, like browns on mayflies. A mate of mine sold up his trout lodge to relocate to Broome (where this video is shot) to set up a bonefish guiding operation. He reappeared with photos of big bones and grinning fly fishers. About the same time milkfish got a lot of publicity from the Seychelles as the hot species to catch once you tired of bonefish. Whaddya know, here were a bunch of Aussies banging these plankton feeders again in the far North West of Australia. This coastline is vast, largely deserted and fairly inhospitable, but as Heads or Tails will show a phenomenal fishery. Watch it and put Broome on your bucket list
