The FTC is now going after credit reporting companies like freecreditreport.com and starting a campaign to inform people that the only authorized source under federal law to get a free credit report is annualcreditreport.com. Also they are wanting to gather any spam you may receive offering free credit reports:The FTC also wants you to forward us any unsolicited emails you've received offering you a free credit report. Send them to spam@uce.gov.This is an interesting new twist by the Obama administration to protect consumers, something we didn’t see under Bush. The FTC is also releasing a couple of promos that are very similar to those of freecreditreport.com. I wonder how long before the wingnuts start screaming that the FTC is interfering with private business. What the FTC is doing now is exactly what a federal government should do, protect its people, and its a welcome change to what we have experienced the previous eight years.
