“What I Think I Know” takes an often humorous look at the cultural stereotypes and misperceptions we hold about cultures other than our own, why we have them, and explains some of the things we can do to move past them and achieve greater mutual understanding. The film—created as part of Western Washington University’s American Democracy Project— focuses primarily on the beliefs that Ukrainians and Americans have about each others’ culture and countries. and gives some historical background and explains why even though the USSR no longer exists and Ukraine has been independent since 1991, most Americans know little or nothing about it and other post-Soviet bloc countries.
