  • J. Bivins commented: Dr. West is a great man, leader and a true scholar. Our president is doing a great job, considering the mess he took on. He is moving from change to transformation.
  • Kareem commented: Tamika... Dr.West will leave footprints on the earth that Obama is too afraid to step into. We are blessed to have Dr.West amongst today-his empowerment for people is a compassionate one. I rather have a White President that makes an impact-than to say there was a Black one that just broke the barrier. Obama has the chance to leave legacy-but as to which one he will be known for is up to him.
  • Margaret commented: I applaud Dr. West these are serious times. I 'm glad that we have a black President, that's history, but the facts remain the same, Obama is not in control. Dr.West, contiune to speak your mind on any policital issue that weighs heavy on your heart. I'm not looking to be saved by Obama, but by Jesus Christ who will judge all.
  • big t commented: Brother West, I get what you said and think you did it so well. You probably can't reach the brother by phone anymore. We are proud of Obama being the first black (bi-racial) President. Some of his attraction had to do with race. Most supporters gave him at least a year or two to do whatever. He gets a pass. That's cool. What most don't understand is that it is a system run by the elite that he is in charge of. If there is no pressure from the people he has no reason or ability to make changes. During MLK's time, people were putting pressure on elected officials. Today we want to believe that things will just fix themselves by electing smart people. The elite have approved Obama and he must take care of their wealth. I feel that he has tried to make a cry to the people but the people don't understand the code such as "you must hold me accountable". The insanity that the previous admin. Left behind will continue to as long as the people are distracted by the hollywood show called the left and the right. The elite don't care who's in office. World domination is the end game. Obama knows that and hopefully he really was sincere when he ran. He doesn't run the country as many believe a president does. He is the chief executive officer. The corporations are still in charge. Watch the film "zeitgeist addendum". Get educated people and I'm not talking CNN. You must get the underground info. This administration is heavy wall st. Bush was heavy military industrial complex. Obama is heavy wall st. and banking in his cabinet. We love Obama the man but not politrics as usual. He may not be able to do much but continue the status quo. A change of color doesn't mean a transformation of an entire system. I pray for God's guidance for us all. We are all responsible for this transformation.
  • Lydell commented: I believe Dr. West's critique of President Obama is both fair and comes from a place of love. Dr. West has dedicated his personal and professional life advocating for the right of people of all, especially those whom he calls the "least of these", to live with dignity and respect. I am one of President Obama's biggest supporters and can appreciate the tremendous domestic and international pressures he has to manage on an hourly basis. However, it is critically important that the voices of Americans who are teetering on the brink of economic catastrophe be heard. Although Dr. West's critique of President Obama may be viewed as harsh by some, I truly beleive it comes from a place of love, given Dr. West's long track record of arguing for progressive policies designed to better the lives of poor and working class people throughout the world.
  • George Mastroni commented: Dr. West,is what many high profile men, should be. NOT AFRAID to ,"tell it,like it is. He address's,the underlying problems, here in America. He knows,WE THE PEOPLE,need to help,PUSH PRESIDENT OBAMA. Our great prez,is up against, huge amounts of money, & his own party. His only mistake, was to surrond himself, with the financial BUMS,like Geithner,Summers,& Bernanke. He should never used a bipartisan approach, because Republican's were NEVER READY,to help! They are BIG BARKING DOGS, that use media & Lies to decieve the public,w/FEAR&ECONOMIC Disaster.(WHICH THEY CREATED). GOD BLESS to All,who is in favor of bringing EQUALITY&JUSTICE,& getting us out of THE WAR MODE!!!
  • Antonio Dias commented: Cornell West is offering a plan. Stop putting Party Loyalty over all other values. When an ally is going astray, let them know it. If all the pressure comes from those who wish Obama to fail, then he will most likely continue to bend to their pressure. This is not a game of politics where being on the winning side is all that matters. That is what Cornell West is saying. Without an acknowledgment of this, not only by Obama, but also by his erstwhile "friends," how can we as a nation distinguish between partisanship and leadership! There must be substance behind the imagery. Without it, as Cornell West states, we are left with just another figurehead veiling the truth of our long slide into irrelevance, our moment passed with nothing to show for it besides fading posters. "Yes we can?" Do what? Stand by as the oligarchs tighten their grip? That's not the promise of America. As important as knowing where to go, is knowing where not to follow. If Obama does not lead towards the promise of Dr. King, then it is up to us to let him know we expect more than an empty image glossing over more of the same.
  • cody stauffer commented: Cornel West is a prophet who speaks truth to power. He's been consistent about that his entire career. He's not just now picking this up- it's who he is and the role he plays. He will lift up the oppressed and the poor to whoever is head of the Empire, friendly or not. Definitely not a ploy for attention- it's what and who he's always been. And it just so happens that he is right, as well.

ameoz commented: Dr. West is on point. None of us are immmune to criticism, including the president. When the policies and initiatives of the government are not in tune with the needs and concerns of the people, then it's the responsiblility of a democratic society to question and take the necessary action(s). President Obama is not above this principle. I, along with millions of others, take pride in having a person of African descent in the Oval Office. Let's be honest though - the man's skin color will not feed the hungry, employ the jobless or house the homeless. So look past race for a minute. Focus on policy. Dr. West is absolutely correct in his assessment of the president's economic team/policy/priorities, as well as in his intention to push President Obama toward the greatness he has the potential to achieve... I, too, applaud Dr. West for his message of critique and encouragement to the president. The progressive movement, and this nation as a whole, benefits from the outspoken advocates for social/economic justice - such as Dr. Cornel West.
  • Wesley Jones commented: I am afraid to say that we need to stop being against people speaking against what they feel is wrong. The government is there to serve US not the other way around. So I applaud Dr. West in continuing to critique and assess Pres. Obama and I feel more of us should do the same. This is a serious and dire time in which the masses need to be aware and engaged, continuing to exert pressure on our government to ensure those on the margins are NOT forgotten about.
  • tamika commented: I agree w/ Fabiola. Dr. West, why the need to openly criticize the President? Are you genuine and passionate about the state of middle class/poor ppl? is this a stunt for attention? What are you doing to help US to progress? Dr. Cornell West, you are behaving like a colorful caretaker of the whiteman's agenda to demoralize upstanding Black leadership. Do something active and progressive other than using media to try to villainize our BLACK PRESIDENT. Shame on you

  • Fabiola Faust commented: Cornell West, I'm disappointed in you! All that complaining and you offer NO plan. That's exactly what the "republican'ts" do. If you are not a part of the solution, you, too, are a part of the problem.
