I’ve been watching the Obama Express today and, early on, I found myself humming “Peace Train” by Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) as I watched. Funny how great events remind us of great music. The words of Peace Train, a song from the ’70’s, are even more appropriate today than when they were written. This is a beautiful rendition - an “unplugged” version wherein Yusuf is backed by a group of men and women with very soulful voices. Very inspiring - please take a few minutes to enjoy it.Now I’ve been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come And I believe it could be, something good has begunOh I’ve been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one And I believe it could be, some day it’s going to comeCause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train Oh peace train take this country, come take me home againNow I’ve been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come And I believe it could be, something good has begunOh peace train sounding louder Glide on the peace train Come on now peace train Yes, peace train holy rollerEveryone jump upon the peace train Come on now peace trainGet your bags together, go bring your good friends too Cause it’s getting nearer, it soon will be with youNow come and join the living, it’s not so far from you And it’s getting nearer, soon it will all be trueNow I’ve been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is Why must we go on hating, why can’t we live in blissCause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again
A wonderful new version of “Peace Train” sung by Yusuf Islam according to Islamic parameters regarding music, and by the Grace of Allah, he is as moving as ever.
