original description

The Learning Circle is a participatory filmmaking project, based in northern Ghana, involving a group of local women and young girls who are all experiencing the harsh realities of discrimination either because of their disability, lack of education and poverty or through their work with marginalised communities. The group makes films on pressing social issues that affect their lives and screens them in the local community to stimulate debate and change. 'Wahala' addresses the gender and power dynamics at work in the highly patriarchal society of Northern Ghana. The filmmakers examine the challenges women are facing in making critical choices, including on their health and economic independence. The Learning Circle project is funded by CAMFED. The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) is an international organization working to solve long-term health, economic and social issues in Africa by investing in girls%u2019 education. In 2005, more than 246,500 children in some of the poorest regions of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania benefited from CAMFED%u2019s education program. CAMFED International 2006 For more information on CAMFED's work, please visit http://www.camfed.org
