Hyperempathy: A condition where one absorbs and shares the joys and pains of everything one sees or makes eye contact with. What if you had Hyperempathy in New York City 2006? Excerpt from "Eyes Shut Beautiful": I didn't choose to live here. I was born in New York City. A strange place to live with a condition like mine. the doctors who know much about nothing told me i am the first case of what I have. I think they were more excited about introducing a new medical term than finding a cure. For years I didn't know what I had until one day I saw a man bleed to death in the subway. I saw him die in front of me. I felt my spirit leave as his left suddenly; unapologetically. I felt his last breathe. His last question. Its then when I knew that the only way I could see the city is with my eyes closed. I only open them when joy pierces the screech of trains and city hum. What's ugly is as true as what's beautiful. But for now I keep my eyes closed until I hear what I must see.
