original description

A clip from a fascinating video site about east Indian society. This film was shot in the city of Mumbai, India. It was made as an entry in a film festival for the promotion of local NGOs (Non-Government Organizations which are normally charitable and not for profit). The NGO covered here is called “Manthan” (which means “churning”) and founded by Gaurav Sharma. There is a story in Hindu Mythology where the Gods churned the oceans to obtain a divine imortalizing nectar or ambrosia (”Amrit”). In the same way Gaurav believes that by churning up these individuals he can help them realize their own divine “amrit” within themselves. Mathan, the NGO, focuses on the rehabilitation of youngsters and adults by targeting to change their behavior pattern through the medium of theatre and dance. This NGO is at the initial stages of its development and is yet to be registered. About the site Swajana - "Life in India" Swajana means “our people”. It’s a collaboration between an Indian and a U.S. video team. You can see videos of everyone below. Our goal is to show daily life in India through the eyes of people who actually live there. The U.S. team simply helps to solve technical problems and do promotion. The Indian team chooses all the stories and does the production.
