The origins of folk song Gypsy Laddie dates back to the 18th century. Initially rooted in the ballad history of Scotland and Ireland, Gypsy Laddie tells a tail of lost love, betrayal and fear. Transplanted to America via immigration, Gypsy Laddie takes on new perspective. Featured in this video are fold singers Jean Ritchie and Pete Seeger. The end of the video transforms past fold song traditions to present day performance of Bob Dylan's It's Not Dark Yet.
