Dionne Warwick follow-up single to the monster hit "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" was "Who Is Gonna Love Me" a Bacharach/David waltz flavored pop ballad. Although "Who Is Gonna Love Me" hit #33 on the Billboard Top 40 Chart and #22 on the CashBox Top 40 Chart in August 1968, it's "B" side "There's Always Something There to Remind Me" caught the ear of DJs throughout the USA who flipped the single and made this a double sided hit. The version of "Always" heard on the flip of "Who Is Gonna Love Me" was re-recorded by Dionne in 1967 and features a rave up Bacharach arrangement, with Dionne's gospel flavored rocking vocals going into the stratosphere on the fade. Dionne, in several interviews with the British press in 1964, after Sandie Shaw's cover of the Lou Johnson version of "Always" became a big hit in the United Kingdom, stated that her demo recording of "Always" predated Lou Johnson's USA version by several months. If this is the case, the master tape of Dionne's original 1964 demo version of "Always" has never been found in the Scepter or Warner Vaults and may be lost forever. Scepter Records was infamous for the shoddy treatment of its album master tapes, and many second generation masters in the early 60s were recorded over to save money.
