Lauryn Hill was the singer for the hip-hop group The Fugees, whose second album, The Score, was a top-seller in 1996. Her cover of the Roberta Flack song "Killing Me Softly", and her appearance in the movie Sister Act 2 thrust her into the limelight. In 1998 Hill's solo musical effort, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was a critical and popular success, earning 10 Grammy Award nominations. But Hill's next record, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0, didn't meet the expectations of fans and she withdrew from public life, dissatisfied with the pressures of celebrity.
