For those who are honestly and truly investigating, check out The Case for Faith and The Case for Christ written by Lee Stobel (previously an atheist who had set out to disprove Christianity..) These two books are excellent for those have a lot of technical/ scientific questions. If they are too technical, try Questions of Life - by Nicky Gumbel (also an atheist who converted upon truly investigating).

If you are truly trying to find out the answer - before investigating, pray that you be filled with God's spirit and that you see the truth. Remember a mustard seed is very tiny. Once you have a mustard seed, water your seed and your doubts will wither. People who have struggled with taking the first step of faith often wind up stronger than others - and actually become excellent witnesses for Christ - probably because they can relate to the unbeliever.

Questions are NOT bad. Jesus was not mad at Thomas for doubting... If something inside is calling you to figure this out - keep asking and never stop investigating - it is truly life or death. Eventually the evidence will be greater than your doubts and you will be able to take the only reasonable step - of faith. Upon earnestly looking at the evidence, it is definitely not a leap.

I'm afraid you've misunderstood James 1:13. James is describing for the reader the way in which one ought to understand and deal with temptation. He says first and foremost that when tempted, we should not think that temptation to do evil comes from God. God is Holy and therefor does not tempt us to do evil. James says don't blame or think that God is the author of wanting to do evil for in fact, God isn't tempted to do evil. The passage you took from the gospel with regard to the devil tempting Jesus does not disprove that Jesus is God. In fact, it proves that he is God. He could NOT be tempted, as James 1 says; God can not be tempted by evil. Lastly, it seems that you are sensible and have careful thought through and took the initiative to find truth. Surely you would take the time to study and understand more clearly the truth found in God's word. It's not always plain, but pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you. I will pray for clarity and for Jesus to reward your initiative with the light of His truth.
