I have found introducing double digit multiplication using partial products is a very effective tool. I would then show my students the traditional way that most parents know. I am always searching for ways to reach different students skills that they need, one way to explain a topic doesn't work for everyone. The problem I have with Singapore math is that it is all drill. There are no hands-on models and they introduce topics before students are ready for them. Some drill is okay but most students are turned off when that is all they do.

What are we teaching? The interesting thing is that math is being taught in a vodcast!

I actually think partial products and quotients are better algorithms, especially for learning. It's a shame she lumped them in with that cluster garbage.
