what people are saying

As you remember, Milbank is the Washington Post reporter who mangled the Obama "symbol quote" so badly and got a lot of flack for it, especially from the gang at MSNBC, but not Olbermann, whose show featured Dana over the last few years. From Keith's Daily Kos diary:Since I was a little less than proactive aboutthis issue last week on television (for reasons which I think willbecome readily apparent), I thought I'd offer a little preview of anitem on tonight's Countdown. The headline: Dana Milbank won't be on the news hour any more.Click over the jump for the clip. The text of the message:Dana Milbank of The Washington Post, who notified us today that afterfour years appearing with us, he had accepted another television offer. This saved your crack Countdown staff an increasingly difficult decision. For nearly a week we'd been waiting for him to offer a correctionor an explanation for his column from last week in which he apparentlyreported an Obama quote without a full context turned the meaning ofthe quote inside-out. Then he called criticisms of his column "whines" even though thedispute was over whether Obama said the self-deprecating: "It hasbecome increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign -- that thecrowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me atall. It's about America. I have just become a symbol of the possibilityof America returning to our best traditions" -- or only the part about"I have just become a symbol..." We had decided not to have Dana on this news-hour again until thiswas cleared up, and, sadly after some very happy years, he's apparentlychosen to make that cloud permanent.Apparently, he's moving to a pundit post at the "running to the right, ASAP" network, CNN.LINK
