My favorite part about this ad? It will drive the Obama folks over the edge… and demonstrate, yet again, that they don’t have any sense of humour.—Media Lizzy
Before I continue, watch McCain's newest ad asking people to NOT join the Obama fan club by joining the Obama fan club (which is really an anti-Obama fan club). Still with me?After having watched the above ad, in which the geek candidate makes fun of the popular candidate, I've realized that John McCain is actually running for student body president. All along, I thought Hillary was Tracy Flick from "Election." It must've been the gender that threw me. I've now figured out that McCain is secretly, desperately, trying to make all the cool kids like him. Of course, this is not to say that Obama is Paul Metzler (not that he's a bad guy, but Obama is a bit more substantive).McCain has always been the cool, hip, maverick guy whose buddy everybody wanted to be. Now, he's the geek, and he's pissed. There are several tells in this ad that let you know it was produced by a geek trying to be cool:1. He makes fun of everyone, including the pretty girl who raves that Obama is as cool as Bono. (Also a good way to get votes, making fun of the electorate).2. Mocks the geeks who have to work at Taco Bell. (He wishes he could work there!)3. Uses an outdated, early 90s pop culture reference that only a geek would find funny.I hope that McCain gets elected Student Body President. Then he can cancel the prom, take away all the money for "fun" activities, and mandate study hall for everyone.
The latest McCain Web ad takes the "Celeb" tag to a whole new low -- it proclaims that "Hot chicks dig Obama":"We know he doesn't have much experience, and isn't ready to lead, but that doesn't mean he isn't dreamy," says the announcer, followed by footage of two women at rallies -- both of whom are white, mind you -- complimenting Obama's looks. How long until "Barack, call me" ends up in a McCain paid TV ad?
