Yomi, thanks for the compliments. You may not agree with my reasoning but is it grounds to be a screw ball? First I congratulate the Dream Team for victory well earned. They outplayed the Ivorians and therefore deserve the glory.
The Eagles improved on their overall field performance in this match and that made a difference. Their coach Siasia even made a public commentary quite similar to mine about the teams lack of discipline. They responded well and achieved success. That's what's expected of a good team.
I will commend their effort when it's deserved and will offer constructive opinion where necessary.
The Dream Team extended their great performance by demolishing Belgium. It was a fantastic performance with profuse scoring. I like that. Again congratulations to the boys.
The biggest challenge for the Eagles now is to perform flawlessly against Argentina. Argentina has great team speed and can move the ball with authority. They will test the Eagle's defence especially from the wings. This is where Nigeria is very vulnerable.
Nigeria has to be alert on defence and play tight when defending. The left and right backs should not give the Argentinians any room to breath. If Nigeria can handle that task of playing smart defence thru out the game, gold is theirs for keeps. The Argentinians also are gifted divers, a despicable behaviour. The Eagles should avoid careless tackles. I wish the team the best of luck.
I sincerely thank the team for making me happy this last two games. Even for a sour Soccer Head, I can be pleased.
Set250, being an objective observer and pointing out the obvious mediocrity of the Nigerian Olympic men's soccer team is not being hateful. I'm passionate about the game and I expect a lot from Nigeria.
Nigeria has now become a third tier team compared to Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana. Can you explain? As long as Nigeria has been fieldings teams and as wealthy as the country is, don't you think we should expect the state sponsored team to perform with class. Frankly, it's so painful to watch these guys walk around the pitch looking so clueless.
I have endured this agony for too long now so I have to vent. I am venting for many fans who would like the space to voice their disgust at the sad state of affairs of our soccer.
Soccer Head, are you that full of hate? Nigeria could have played better but both their goals made me proud that at least we lost to them. In both goals, we had playeds that slipped in front of goal................and it wasn't even raining! Sure, they might have some problems against the ivorians, but I expect them to come out tops. Prediction Ivory Coast 0, Nigeria 1
Nigeria won the match but wasn't the better team. They got lucky. With one player short, the US team played with more gusto than Nigeria. If that game lasted 5 more mins, Nigeria would have lost.
The Nigerian defense was very porous and could have been exploited profitably by the US. The Nigerian attack lacked creative finish while wasting many scoring opportunities. The players appear to lack stamina and reacted late to threatening situations.
The Nigerian talent level is low and it shows in overall poor team speed, marginal coordination and lack lustre performance. The game against Cot d'Ivoir ( I prefer Ivory Coast) will be the end of the road for Nigeria. Ivory Coast will expose Nigeria's weakness and will smack them around. Prediction, Ivory Coast 3, Nigeria 0. Yes I'm Nigerian and I'm brutally honest.
