The original version of this movie is soooo much better than the remake. In fact, I just saw the remake last night and alot of the dialog is straight from the movie verbatim. And when it is verbatim, the actors in the remake sound like they're reading from cue cards. It lacks the passion and comedy of the original. And while I love Bette Midler and most of the other actresses in the remake, they were also lacking in the spunk and emotion of the actresses who played in the original. If you get the chance to see the original 1939 version, I would highly recommend it.

Witty moments:
A recent Broadway staging of The Women, directed by Scott Elliott, starred Kristen Johnston, Rue McClanahan, Cynthia Nixon, Jennifer Tilly, Mary Louise Wilson, and Jennifer Coolidge. That production was broadcast on PBS stations in the Unite States as part of the “Stage on Screen” series.
