By David Neiwert The L.A. Times' James Rainey took out after CNN's Rick Sanchez this morning for his segment yesterday in which he interviewed me about the Salon piece I co-wrote with Max Blumenthal about Sarah Palin's past dalliances with Alaska's far-right fringe crowd. Writes Rainey:But Sanchez and the CNN crew instead ran their reportoff into the underbrush, reaching a low when the anchor tried to draw aparallel between the Alaska party and the forces behind the bombing ofthe federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995."Not comparing them to actions but comparing them in terms ofideology, not actions but ideology, are [members of the AlaskanIndependence Party] similar to the group that blew up the Murrah building?" Sanchez asked, seemingly apologetic for that stinker, even as he unleashed it.Even Neiwert, whose reporting makes him no Palin fan, seemed a bittaken aback by that line. "Well, of course, that was an individual lonewolf who was associated with the patriots" movement, Neiwert said ofthe Oklahoma City attack. "But, yes, they basically come from the same,uh, sort of ideological background. That's correct."I still had trouble seeing what that had to do with Sarah Palin.Well, it's true that I was a bit taken aback by the question. Forone, hardly anyone in the mainstream media seems to remember theOklahoma City bombing and the Patriot movement's involvement in it. Forthe most part, the mainstream line has evolved that this was an"isolated incident" involving a lone kook, rather than the signatureevent of a broad stream of right-wing domestic terrorism that hit theUnited States in the 1990s. So I was a little surprised to hear someonemake the connection. But it is a connection that involves some thoughtful nuance, so Iwas careful in answering him. The reality is that the 199...
There are a number of things that McCain doesn’t know how to do….#1- not give up American secrets in order to receive better treatment while “prisoner” of war..#2- pick a running mate that his own party will not talk about behind his back (or while being recorded after a talk show segment)#3- allow his running mate to do her job…she was obviously picked to be the orator of the two…and the pretty one.I mean lets face it, McCain will never be a powerful orator. Palin’s job is to make emotion driven speeches and appeal to the women that Hilary had supporting her, and the parents of disabled children. Palin is not going to do any interviews until after the election….doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Maybe she is just stuck on that bridge to no where that she actually rallied for. Actually, I think she is busy with her meetings for the Alaskan Independence Party. They want to secede from the United States. Oh, if you don’t know what their platform is, here it goes… 1. To effect full compliance with the constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Alaska. 2. To support and defend States’ Rights, Individual Rights, Property Rights, and the Equal Footing Doctrine as guaranteed by the constitutions of the United States of America and the state of Alaska. 3. To advocate the convening of a State Constitutional Convention at the constitutionally designated 10 year interval. 4. To reinforce the unalienable rights endowed by our Creator to Alaska law, by eliminating the use of the word “privilege” in the Alaska statutes. 5. To amend the Constitution of the State of Alaska so as to re-establish the rights of all Alaskan residents to entry upon all public lands within the state, and to acquire private property interest there in, under fair and reasonable conditions. Such property interest shall include surface and sub-surface patent. 6. To foster a constitutional amendment abolishing and prohib...
"I hope that you all are inspired by remembering that all those years ago it was in this same city that Alaska's constitution was born. And it was founded on hope and trust and liberty and opportunity. I carry that message of opportunity forward in my administration as we continue to move our state ahead and create positive change...."
Key word here folks: self-sufficient. What does that mean? Maybe it's a reference to her being a member of the Alaskan Independence Party whose primary objective is to secure a vote on whether Alaska should secede from the United States. Well this brings her negatives up to 10. I can't wait to see how she will top herself tomorrow.
