The Charity Water Story
The story of charity: water - The 2009 September Campaign
From: charitywater | Goal: Providing Safe Drinking Water to a Million People !

I am always impressed with the power of a simple idea put into action by people who want to make a difference.  There is a lot we can all learn from this story even if we are not changing the world with the marketing we do everyday, although we should always strive for that.  In the past three years they have raised over $10 million from over 60,000 donors and helped over 700,000 people in 16 countries to get access to clean and safe drinking water.

Those of you that know me,  know that  I have spent a good portion of my life in international markets and developing nations and the number one problem that many of these nations face is having access to clean, safe drinking water. We all take it for granted, myself included.  It is at the core of so many problems that plague much of the world's population. I support programs that are focused on solving some of these core global issues.

From a campaign perspective I love their use of powerful video,  Social Marketing channels and their live staged events . It has all of the powerful viral aspects.  But most importantly I love that they stepped up and are making a difference with their lives.

Watch the below video to get a sense of the challenge and the opportunity to make a difference. I am committed to making a difference how about you?  Tell us about your causes and how you are making a difference in your life. At the end of the day that is how our life will be measured. My personal belief is that there is a huge opportunity for major and emerging brands to get behind cause based marketing.  I'd love to hear your opinion and what you and your company are doing in this area.

There have been moments in the history of viral video when it seems as if the whole world unites around one phenomenon. Evolution of Dance is one. Bush's infamous battle with an Iraqi journalist's shoes is another. For the past week, we've been marveling at the popularity of the latest star of viral video – the unassuming, unexpectedly talented Susan Boyle of Britain's Got Talent.

Susan Boyle's Got Talent
As you can see, Susan enchanted the audience and judges of Britain's Got Talent with her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from the musical Les Miserables. Since then, the video of h

Social Marketing With a Cause!
One of the great things about where I work at Digitaria is that we get to work everyday on some of the most advanced Online,Social and Mobile Marketing for some of the largest global brands in the world including Intel, Hasbro, Cisco and Media & Entertainment giants like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, MTV  as well as leading sports franchises such as the NFL, MLS, ATP, ISC and many others. As great as it is to work with the giants it is also really satisfying when we have the opportunity to take all of our advanced technologies, know how and skills and apply them to making a difference in the world with some of the smaller non-profits that are driven by passionate people that get up everyday, give thanks for what they have and go about making the world a better place.

INVISIBLE CHILDREN

I am fortunate that I get to work with a group of passionate people that are truly moved to make a difference and we have a host of non-profits that we work with. It is truly one of the most satisfying parts of our jobs.  One such example is our work with a non-profit called Invisible Children which was started by three young men who were just out of college and wanted to go out and see the world and capture their stories on film. They witnessed  first hand the gross injustice of a war in Uganda, Africa where children were being taken from their homes in the middle of the night and turned into child soldiers as well as the  families that were devestated by the warfare and lost absolutley everything being displaced and all but forgotten in camps where they struggle daily with the basics of clean watter and food.  They came to us with a powerful story to tell and a challenge of how to gather American youth to take action to help.  They took their story on the road and we helped them take the story onto the Web. Through the innovative use of storytelling through Social Networks & Marketing, Videos, Mobile Marketing , a powerful website and the passion of people who cared to ste

Did You Know?
Did You Know?As a father of 4 I am concerned about our country and what the future holds for our children. I am also an optimist and believe in the American Spirit and our ability to change with the times.  I came across this YouTube video called DID YOU KNOW?  I guess it has been around a while but it was compelling and tells us about the current state of a child born in the U.S. today in comparison to India and China and other countries committed to education of the next generation.  Check it out at the below link. I am very interested in how we can use all of our advanced technology and access to global informaiton to empower our current and future generations to be prepared for the shifts that are happening today and over the coming years.  We are in a situation today where we are not educating our children for the jobs of tomorrow and that will hurt us greatly as a nation.  Take a look at the video and some of the compelling video responses that people have put together and let me know your thoughts.

Had any good conversations with your TV Lately?
Each year we are seeing advances in how we humans communicate and interact with our devices whether it's the coolest new iPhone app or an integration of our social networks with our TV and gaming devices. Last night I watched a preview of The Surrogates movie with Bruce Willis. I normally love Bruce Willis movies so I am looking forward to seeing this one on the big screen. The premise is that in the future we will be able to have robotic surrogates of ourselves developed that we can operate from the comfort of our homes and send out into the world to live out our wildest fantasies and adventures..until of course it all goes horribly wrong and  the plot thickens. Check out the preview below:

Scifi Fantisy or Future Reality? So is this just another Scifi fantasy? Or could this be were we are heading.  The high tech gurus at Microsoft and other companies are working today on what is being called Gestural Computing combined with fine tuned motion sensors that will enable us to interact with our TV and devises like never before. Check out the Video below on what Microsoft is calling the Natal Project.

of course there examples that Microsoft uses are a little less Hollywood than the adventure with Bruce Willis but you see the direction of where the future is heading.  In the Natal Project you can see a glimpse of the integration with Social Networking, eCommerce and collaboration technologies coming together.  definitely something that would bring you back to our TV screen.  Let's just hope we don't all turn into couch potatoes too soon! Don't forget to get out and enjoy the day and talk to some real people!
